PTCB-Certified Technician Named HOPA Technician of the Year
Pharmacy Technician, Therese McGrain, CPhT, has been named Pharmacy Technician of the Year by the Hematology Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA). The HOPA technician award recognizes a pharmacy technician who has demonstrated excellence and leadership in his or her work and a commitment to hematology/oncology pharmacy practice in an organized health care setting. "Working in a pharmacy, it's the only job I've ever known and I love it," said Therese McGrain. "If you can make a small impact on people's life, you should and that's what I get to do here at Biologics." Therese joined Biologics, Inc. in 2004 as a pharmacy technician for Biologics OnCue Rx™ pharmacy services. She was promoted in 2009 as Pharmacy Technician Supervisor and is a founding member of the Pharmacy Leadership Committee. She was nominated for the award by Beth Chen, Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist and Director of Clinical Operations for Biologics OnCue Rx™ pharmacy services. Pharmacy Technician Video Competition
The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) is hosting ASHP's Pharmacy Technician Initiative Video Competition, a new competition designed to promote pharmacy technician training and education, and offer pharmacy technicians, pharmacy departments, state affiliates, pharmacy technician training programs, and pharmacy technician educators the opportunity to showcase the training, education, and overall value of a pharmacy technician in a creative competition. All pharmacy technicians, pharmacy departments, state affiliates, technician training programs, pharmacy technician educators and others who are interested in participating in the competition are asked to submit a video up to three minutes in length, addressing one or more of the following topics:
- The Essential Role of the Pharmacy Technician; Why You Should Be a Pharmacy Technician
- Outlining Career Paths for Pharmacy Technicians
- Describing the Training of Pharmacy Technicians including ASHP-Accredited Training
- Programs and PTCB Certification
- Communicating the Value of ASHP-Accredited Training
- The Role of Pharmacy Technicians in the Future (i.e. Guiding Change as Part of the ASHP Pharmacy Practice Model Initiative)
To compete, complete a video application form. Final film submissions are due by Midnight (EDT), May 31, 2010.
