From the Executive Director
Dear Colleagues: Winter and spring 2010 have been a busy time at PTCB. As we continue to celebrate our 15th year of operating as the standard in pharmacy technician certification, we are proud to highlight some of the PTCB's milestones and outline plans for the future. There are many new things to be excited about, including our presence on the popular social networking sites Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn; recently released study results on pharmacists' perceptions of the impact pharmacy technician certification has on patient care and pharmacy workflows; and the most recent milestone for PTCB which came in May 2010 when the Texas Board of Pharmacy awarded the contract for Pharmacy Technician Certification Provider to the PTCB. In the Staying Healthy section, you will find an article on sun safety and sunscreens to help you make the best choices while you enjoy fun in the sun during the summer months. Staying motivated while you are at work and in your professional life can be a challenge when the weather is beautiful outside and you wish you were enjoying it. A fellow CPhT shares her thoughts on self-motivation and how to "get to where you want to be," in the professional development section of this edition. Since we began in 1995, PTCB has certified over 372,000 pharmacy technicians and we are proud of the accomplishments they have made to patient safety. In this edition, join us in shining the spotlight on two of your colleagues from Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC, both working in innovative roles and making a difference for their patients. Congratulations are in order for another CPhT who has been nationally recognized for excellence in the workplace. Information about her award can be found in the News On You section. I would also like to share a professional achievement with you. In April, I was honored by my alma mater, Drake University, with the Weaver Medal of Honor. The Weaver Medal is the highest honor given by the Drake College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences to recognize dedication and service to Drake and the profession of pharmacy. My career has focused on credentialing, patient safety, and pharmacy technicians. The future of pharmacy is indeed bright. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to PTCB, the profession of pharmacy, and your patients. Sincerely,
Melissa Murer Corrigan, RPh |
